Sustainable Emission Abatement Strategies & Technologies for Advanced Revolution Ship
Sustainable Shipping Innovation in Europe

The SEASTARS Project (Sustainable Emission Abatement Strategies & Technologies for Advanced Revolution Ships) is a European Horizon Europe Innovation Action that aims to transform the future of maritime transport. The project focuses on developing modular, scalable solutions that reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency, and support the transition to sustainable shipping across inland, short-sea, and deep-sea vessels.
Vessel design & technical focus areas
- Container vessels
- Crude Oil tankers
- PCTCs and
- Chemical tankers
4 retrofitted Vessels
Solar Panels Adaptation of existing fleets with modular emission-reduction tech.
4 new build Vessels
Integrated low emission solutions from design stage.

Goals of SEASTARS
SEASTARS addresses the urgent need for decarbonization in the shipping industry. Its primary objectives are:
- Achieve at least a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared to 2008 levels
- Deliver a 20% improvement in vessel energy efficiency relative to 2022 performance
- Provide shipowners with practical, cost-effective, and future-proof design options
